A Happy New 2009?

January 1, 2009

Tradition would normally dictate that we be as euphoric as we can be when we usher in a new year. But this time it’s different.

Honestly, there’s absolutely nothing to be happy about except for the transition of the occasion itself, which is short-lived.

While most around the world would rather forget 2008 as the year which saw them losing their jobs, pensions, life-savings, marriages, houses and what have you, 2009 will merely be a repeat of what happened the previous year but with greater ferocity upon the yet unscathed masses with more banks, stock markets, investment funds, insurance companies and businesses collapsing like the twin towers of Manhattan.

All told, it’s all about money in the end. And what’s left of it.

For a start, how is this for confidence-building, when all that this piece of news here has to conclude about “a currency with a safe harbour of value in 2009” is this … ?

“Finding a safe currency is almost as hard as finding a safe bank.”

A Happy New 2009? i think not.

  6. Ok, bro, lissen up, will yer.

It’s definitely all about the money.

And since we have so little of it with the further prospect of whatever’s left being diminished more in 2009, look on the bright side.

Huh, you’d say? No contagion effect if everybody’s poor, except for that select few, of course.

Now let’s pray that ‘Nibiru’ wipes out that lot altogether.

Look to the Southern skies from May ’09 onwards.

  8. Oh maybe the economy is headed for rough waters. But I am still alive, i still can put food on the table, I still have a job. i still have you as a friend. I think u’d welcome me at ur table if i were hungry.
There are still lots in life to be thankful for, ewoon.

Happy New Year from an optimist.
