PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz (pic) has announced she wants to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

The long-time former Wanita Umno chief and former international trade and industry minister had told Bersatu chairman and Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad about her plans, reported Malay daily Berita Harian.

“I want to join Bersatu. I’ve told the Prime Minister but so far, I’m not able to obtain and fill up the membership form.

“But right now, where our heart is, that’s the most important. Signing the form is merely a symbolic gesture (to join the party),” she was quoted as saying when met at the Chartered Secretaries Malaysia (MAICSA) Symposium 2018 on Thursday (Nov 8).

Prior to the 14th General Election, the Umno disciplinary board had sacked Rafidah, as well as party veterans Tun Daim Zainuddin and Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim for supporting Pakatan Harapan, which was then in the Opposition.

The trio had criticised Barisan Nasional, while Daim and Rafidah had openly supported Pakatan Harapan by attending events and even speaking at the coalition’s ceramahs.

However, according to Berita Harian, Rafidah refused to be associated with Jeli MP Datuk Mustapa Mohamed, who joined Bersatu on Oct 26.
