KUALA LUMPUR: Former 1MDB CEO Arul Kanda Kandasamy and former attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali will be among those who will be summoned by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for further explanation on the 1MDB audit report.

This follows today’s testimony by former auditor-general Ambrin Buang on the alleged alteration to the 1MDB audit report, which supposedly removed mention of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho.

PAC chairman Ronald Kiandee said they received a lot of new information today from Ambrin.

“There are many more things to be investigated,” Ronald said when met in Parliament this afternoon.

He said Ambrin will be recalled again and did not rule out the possibility of calling former prime minister Najib Razak as well.

Asked whether Ambrin had testified that he was directed by Najib to make a change to the 1MDB audit report, he declined to comment.

“A lot was clarified by Ambrin. Ambrin has given us five to six names to probe.”

According to the former deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker, PAC’s investigation this time is not to know in-depth the issues related to 1MDB, but only to confirm whether the audit report on 1MDB was changed.

“There is no time frame,” he said.

A-G Madinah to testify next

Ambrin had testified to the PAC from 11am to 4pm today.

Auditor-General Madinah Mohamad will be called to give testimony tomorrow.

On Nov 25, Madinah disclosed that some parts of the 1MDB audit report were altered on Najib’s orders.

A former principal private secretary to Najib allegedly ordered the Audit Department to remove any mention of Jho Low’s presence at a meeting with the 1MDB board of directors in its report on the troubled investment arm, she said. That person had allegedly issued the directive on Feb 26, 2016.

Two days later, a meeting was held with Najib in the presence of Ali Hamsa, Ambrin and the private secretary.

During the meeting, Najib had allegedly ordered a paragraph in the audit report to be removed.

As a result, the audit report, which was supposed to be presented to PAC on Feb 24, 2016, was postponed to March 4 and 7 of the same year, Madinah said.

She also listed several more meetings where more amendments were made to the report.

The 2016 Auditor-General’s Report on the state investment arm came under the spotlight last month following claims by deputy PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh that the original audit report was amended on the instructions of specific people.

Ambrin has denied the claim.
