Jamal Yunos’ hotel is on auction

July 11, 2019

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos is letting go of his hotel business in Sekinchan, Selangor, due to bad business, claiming that Pakatan Harapan had obstructed government agencies from booking the hotel.

When contacted, Jamal said he hasn’t found a buyer for the hotel that he has been operating for 13 years, before he joined politics.

The Sekin Hotel & Resort is now on auction with a starting price of RM4.5 million. The hotel, 13,509 sq meter in size, is located at 358, Resort and Restaurant, Jalan Pantai Redang, Kampung Baru Sungai Labu, in Sekinchan.

“After the BN government collapsed in May last year, the hotel’s business plummeted.

“Prior to that, government agencies booked the hotel for a myriad of activities. Ever since Pakatan Harapan took over, it had blocked the agencies from booking the hotel,” he said, adding that the hotel had also received tourists from all over the world.

Jamal said he is saddened to let go of the hotel since it is the part and parcel of doing business although he has managed it before he joined politics.

“The hotel is still operating and the employees are not affected. I look forward to a new buyer to continue its operation.”

He said many people have contacted him and expressed sympathy as his business is down, with some asking whether he is now at the rock bottom.

“But I am okay. Don’t worry,” he said.

During BN’s reign, Jamal was famous for holding protests with his NGO the Red Shirts.

Among others, he smashed beer bottles and appeared clad in a towel in front of the Selangor State Assembly building, as well as parading effigies of numerous politicians in public places.

In May last year, he was wanted for various offences including under Section 290 of the Penal Code concerning public nuisance and Section 34 of the Arms Act 1960 which concerns the carrying of a firearm while drunk or disorderly.

He then fled to Indonesia and was subsequently arrested in Tebet, South Jakarta.

Despite being on the run, Jamal was re-elected as the Sungai Besar Umno chief during the last party election.
