PETALING JAYA: Police today arrested a 43-year-old man over a Facebook posting seen as inciting Muslims in Malaysia to shed the blood of non-Muslims.
Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Roslan Bek Ahmad said the arrest was made following a police report lodged by a politician on the posting, which urged Muslims to “sharpen their knives for the infidels”.
He will be brought to magistrate’s court tomorrow where police will apply for an order to hold him in remand for further investigations.
Last Wednesday, FMT reported that an officer with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) was believed to have uploaded the posting.
Roslan Bek said in a statement that police had acted on a report lodged by a 49-year-old politician after reading the FMT report, of the posting, which he viewed as a threat to public order.
A 43-year-old suspect was arrested at 3pm today at Cheras district headquarters. During initial investigations the suspect claimed that his Facebook account had been hacked, Roslan said.
“The police view this issue very seriously and will not hesitate to take appropriate action based on the law,” Roslan said. He advised members of the public not to make racial statements that could disrupt public order or cause public outrage.
