In 1986, he debated Jimmy Swaggart and even challenged the late Pope John Paul II to a debate in the Vatican Square.
In April 6, 1996 on Good Friday he held a meeting in Sydney, Australia and mockingly attacked the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ in front of a large audience. 28 days later he suffered a rare kind of stroke which completely paralysed him with no ability to speak nor swallow.
